Structure of the Program
The majority of the compulsory subjects are taken in the first semester. However, subject-specific electives can also be taken in the winter semester. In the summer semester, participants can take further subject-specific courses and are accompanied by student mentoring.
Some courses are mandatory for all participants to confirm "active participation" in the project and for admission to the mathematics exam. Missed appointments are allowed to a certain extent. The exact information will be given to the participants at the start of the orientation year.
Events with compulsory attendance:
- Mathematics exercises
- Mentoring appointments

Types of events
-
Lectures: Lectures usually refer to lectures given by a lecturer on a specific topic. In addition to small interactive questions, the focus here is on imparting knowledge by listening or taking notes on important aspects.
-
Global exercises: Global exercises can be compared to lectures, except for the fact that solutions of exercise sheets, which the students have to work on beforehand, are often presented by a lecturer or discussed under their moderation. Cooperation, the exchange of solution strategies, and the discussion of problems in their execution are explicitly desired here.
-
Tutorial: In contrast to a global exercise, in which all students participate, a tutorial is a small group exercise or discussion group. Among them is the so-called tutor – a student assistant who is often only a few semesters ahead of the participants and who provides advice and support. In a tutorial, therefore, questions about the lecture and the global exercise can be asked uninhibitedly. In most cases, tutorials also offer a very good opportunity to complete exercise tasks on the spot, either on one's own or in a team, and the tutor can always help.
-
Self Assessment: A Self Assessment is an orientation test that helps you better assess personal abilities. The individual results here provide guidance in choosing a field of study.
-
Trial sessions: Trial sessions are an offer of the RWTH to listen to different lectures of the different study programs and to get a feeling for the subjects.
